Addie suddenly felt slightly conscious of herself. Did she seem like such a good girl that it was annoying? She figured she wouldn’t say anything else about her family anymore, because that made her seem like a regular church-going, academy student, which she wasn’t. She went to the academy but she didn’t think of herself as stuck up or anything. Then again, she didn’t watch her every move and see what she did daily. Maybe her personality was a stuck up one. She was hoping that it wasn’t, but even if it was, it was just something that she would have to work on. Maybe she should watch her body language. It’s not like Addie walked around with her nose up in the air or anything. She tried to keep her composure as these thoughts ran through her head.
She glanced over at Cameron, giving him a half smile. “Nah, this isn’t corruption I suppose.” She mused, nodding. “Corruption is probably much worse. I’ve never actually been corrupted. Maybe I need corruption. I think I’ve said that word too many times.” Addie laughed nervously, tucking one of her brown locks behind her ear. She couldn’t understand how she had got the courage to come out here tonight. Usually, she’d just sit at home and wish she went out, but knew she was too afraid. Now, she found herself in the car of a boy that she barely knew, and they were about to sneak onto the roof of Stewart. Maybe this good girl reputation would be going down the drain.
Her eyes narrowed at the school, and then she nodded. “Yup, sounds good to me.” Addie said softly with a smile. She went to open the door, but then noticed that Cameron was coming around to open it for her. She thanked the lord that he had, because she was now absolutely terrified of breaking the door handle off. That would probably be the most embarrassing moment she would ever have. It wasn’t every day you yanked a cute boy’s car door handle off. It would be awkward, and he’d probably laugh at her. At least, that’s what she thought.
She climbed out of the car, looking up at Cameron and smiling softly. “Well thank you very much,” Addie said with a grin, crossing her arms across her chest. Addie really had no idea where this ladder was. Out of all of her years at the academy, she had never even noticed a ladder on the side of the school. It shows you how observant Addie really was. She shook her head at herself, shutting the car door behind her and beginning to walk towards the building. “If we get caught, I’m blaming you,” Addie said, teasingly. Of course she wouldn’t actually blame him, she’d just say they went up there to relax and that nobody should mind that. At least they weren’t vandalizing the property. That would be a big step for Addie. Of course it wasn’t like she was trying to turn herself into a bad ass over night. That would shock the entire school, not to mention her family.

"No problem," murmured Cameron as he shut the car door after her, and he began leading her through the parking lot and towards the humongous building. He figured that since it was the middle of the summer, security wouldn't be too beefy at this time of year. There was a very slight chance that they would be caught. Besides, even if they were, they'd probably just get a scolding and be let off.
The ladder was located on the side of the school, and it ran along the brick all the way up to the roof. He had climbed up there before, so it wasn't too intimidating to him, obviously. However, he had to consider how it looked to Addie. It probably seemed like a very dangerous climb. Which would be correct, of course; it was.
Cameron stopped in front of it and then glanced at Addie over his shoulder. "Do you want me to climb first?" he asked, taking a moment to think it through. It didn't really make sense if he went first. That would only mean she'd have the added pressure of worrying whether he slipped and fell down on her while she was coming up. "Or maybe you should go up first, and I'll climb below you. That way, if you fall I can attempt to catch you." He gave her a friendly wink and folded his arms across his chest. Whichever she was comfortable with, it didn't really matter. Cameron mostly just wanted to get up there so he could start smoking.
It was quite odd that he wasn't getting the usual stressed out feeling he got back when he was living at Stewart. Sure, he was desperate to inhale some tobacco at the moment, but it was nice that he would be able to sit on the roof and not have to worry about finishing a stupid assignment or something to that extent. Of course, there was always the stress of his job and paying the rent. But those were the kind of things he could deal with. Cameron didn't know why those came so much easier to him than studying for an exam...
He tossed the small box of cigarettes in the air patiently and smiled at Addie, waiting for her answer.
ooc: sorry about the length, I've got to get back in the funk of posting again since I've been away for so long. xD

Her nerves were at their highest, but Addie was good at hiding these things. Her fears were silly, really. The little things made her shake in her boots. Spiders, bugs, loud noises, the dark, and all the usual things scared her. When it came to the big things like climbing up the side of her school, facing a coffin with her mother’s body or jumping from high heights, she swallowed her pride and jumped right into them. It didn’t make much sense. You couldn’t call her fearless, because the majority of things that normal people could handle, Addie couldn’t. She found it too difficult. One of her goals in life was to get over everything and face her fears. She couldn’t be a hermit for the rest of her life. It was unhealthy, not to mention it didn’t seem like too much fun.
Addie contemplated the options he gave her. It was true; she would worry about him practically collapsing on her if he went up first. If she let him go first, she could also use it to her advantage and show the boy that she wasn’t a complete sour puss. She chose to go first, mainly because it was his offer. She chuckled softly, stepping forward. “I think I’ll manage,” Addie commented, grabbing onto the ladder and pulling herself up. She was surprised at how swiftly she was moving, as if she wasn’t climbing up to a building that she could fall off of and die. Addie had always wondered what would happen if her shoe fell off in the midst of climbing up this thing. Would she climb down and retrieve it, or go shoeless up onto the gravel covered roof?
She quickly shook the thought from her mind. She didn’t really want to jinx herself. Addie had gotten halfway up the ladder when she looked down. It was a long fall, but she was enjoying the adrenalin. So with that, she continued to climb. Addie picked up speed a little bit before pushing herself onto the roof, looking over it and feeling rather proud of herself. She wanted to make sure Cameron was there with her, so she turned on her heel. It was a bad move, because she could feel herself losing her balance. She quickly regained her composure before she could fall, laughing softly. “Let it be me to lose my balance on a rooftop. I could see that happening.” She paused to reach up and twirl one of those stray curls. “I’d trip on a rock and go tumbling to my death.” The girl exaggerated, looking over the edge.
It was time to add a bit more of a rush to the experience. Slowly, Addie sat down, scooting to the edge and letting her feet hang over it. She could feel her nerves slowly slipping away, and all of the tenseness in her muscles finally relaxing. “You were right,” She started, looking down at the grass and empty parking lot below her. It was almost as if she wanted to jump down. It would be a rush if there was a trampoline under there. She could dive down there and bounce on the huge trampoline. “This place is really relaxing.” She stated, giving him a smile.

Cameron was slightly surprised when she agreed to go first, but then again, it was sort of the safer choice anyway. Still, she was obviously hesitant about it. People who had a fear of climbing didn't usually tend to be brave enough to go up the side of a building. He had to hand it to her; it was a courageous move.
He followed up after her. The rusty metal of the ladder was very familiar against his hands, and Cameron recounted all the times he had come here during his time at Stewart. The roof had practically been his savior back then. Even just the small rush of climbing such a tall height had always made him feel better.
Cameron had just reached the top when Addie almost slipped and fell. Immediately a look of horror spread onto his face, before it quickly turned into relief. "Jesus! You're killing me, smalls," he said, letting out a deep breath and smiling nervously. He didn't know her too well, but having to go through seeing her fall off a roof? It would absolutely tear him apart, especially now that they'd spent some time together. Addie seemed like such a fragile person, and he felt this hidden feeling of protection for her.
He looked a bit anxious again as she sat down at the edge, but she seemed to be okay. Carefully, Cameron took a seat beside her and slipped a single cigarette from the box. He grabbed his lighter out of his pocket and lit up. Within seconds, he was breathing tobacco into the air.
"I love it up here," he said softly, letting his eyes close. There was a breeze, and the wind felt good blowing against his face. "It always reminds me that there's more to the world than the damn routines we go through every day. We all get so sucked up in our everyday lives that sometimes we forget how blessed we truly are, and how spacious and beautiful this place is." He let his own words sink in, and then opened his eyes again.
"Sorry," he said, turning to Addie and grinning. "I don't mean to get all mushy about it and shit. I just get this weird influx of emotions every time I'm up here," he joked, taking another drag. He started swinging his legs and looked down at the ground as well. It was normal to feel scared, but it never had bothered Cameron. Actually, life-threatening situations were hardly an issue for him. He looked at things this way: if he was meant to die at that moment, then it would happen. There was no use wasting time worrying about things like danger and death. Life went by much too fast for stuff like that.
"You sure you don't want a cigarette?" he asked Addie again, but was already stuffed the box back in his pocket. She was definitely willing to try new things and have fun, Cameron could see that. But she wasn't stupid, either. Addie wasn't going to let tobacco be the one to destroy her body, if it were ever to be destroyed.

Heights actually weren’t a big deal to Addie. She had gotten over that fear whenever Skyler dared her to go up on the roof with him one night. Of course they got in trouble for it, considering they could have probably killed themselves. Skyler could be reckless when he wanted to be, and that would bring Addie’s wild side out. It was rare that you saw it, but when you did, she could do anything. Her wild side actually very much intrigued her. She didn’t know what she was doing when it took over. Tonight, she wanted to keep control. She didn’t want to look like a complete goober the first time she hung out with the boy. In that way, she wished she had a different personality. Addie wished she didn’t have to care.
If Addie knew of his feeling of protection, she would probably feel a lot better. She only knew of one person who was going to protect her, and that was Skyler. She knew no matter what that that boy would cover for her and take his life for her. When he was threatening to off himself, she remembered the pain she endured. It was worse than one million cuts all bleeding forcefully at once. She feared every night when she went to sleep that she would wake up to a gun shot, or a parent’s scream. Therefore, she didn’t sleep too much during the amount of time when Skyler was coping. Of course he still was, but nothing compared to what he was like before.
When Cameron called her smalls, she giggled softly, shaking her head. “Sorry, didn’t mean to give you a heart attack. I think I gave myself one too.” She commented, twirling one of her curls. It was true, Addie wasn’t ready to die. She didn’t want to slip from the roof and get crushed to the ground. That would be an epic fail. She couldn’t help but wonder what it would feel like. Feeling the panic set in first, and then let it slowly slip as you drifted to the ground, and then all of a sudden it’s all over because the impact kills you. Well that sounded pleasant.
Addie titled her head to the side, grinning, and then nodding in response. “No, you didn’t get mushy.” She began, chuckling. “You’re right. I think in a way everybody is OCD. We all have our routines. Wake up, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, and go to school, etcetera.” She shrugged, shaking her head. “It’s good to have a break in routine like this.” She said with a nod, letting a small smile creep up on her face. She had to admit, she was enjoying herself a lot. It was good to get out every once in awhile.
As he offered her a cigarette, she shook her head no. “I know I said I’d spare you the lecture but-“ She stopped, beginning her mini lecture. “Would you like to die of lung cancer, Mister Sweet? Drop the cancer sticks.” Addie teased, crossing her arms across her chest and then looking down at the ground again. “So maybe it wasn’t much of a speech, but it got my point across.” She grinned over at him again, letting her feet swing back and forth. “What if my shoe falls off?” The girl added randomly. Now she just wanted to kick it off into the sky and let it fall down. It would be an interesting sight.

Cameron laughed cheerfully, although the topic was rather morbid if you really thought about it. "I'd rather die of lung cancer than something lame like... old age." He wrinkled his nose and snickered again. "At least I'd be going down with a fight. Everyone would say, 'Oh yeah, that poor Cameron... died of lung cancer. Such a shame.' Much more interesting than going senile and waiting for my death in a retirement home." Not that it all particularly mattered to him. People probably wouldn't think much of his death, regardless of the way it happened. He simply didn't have a family that cared enough.
"If your shoe falls off, then you'll be shoeless until we leave. No way in hell do I want to sit up here and wait for you to go back down, get it, and climb back up. And it's not like I'm going to fetch it for you." Cameron smiled. "So I suppose it's best you just don't let it fall off, eh?" he joked, enjoying the smell of the cigarette smoke in the air. This was turning out to be a very lovely evening. He was glad he met up with Addie. She wasn't the typical person he'd hang out with, but at the same time, he didn't really have a certain 'type' of friend. At this point, he'd chat with anyone. He was actually pretty fortunate that he'd found someone so friendly in a chatroom.
In fact, the evening was going so great, Cameron was almost starting to feel a bit giddy. He sort of just wanted to get up and begin dancing around, even though there was no music to listen to. A sudden spark of energy had just shot through him. It was either that, or he was just getting horny. He hadn't had sex in a long time, and if someone offered it to him tonight, he'd have a hard time saying no. But it wasn't like he was planning on having sex with Addie, of course. He had just met her, and besides, she was much too innocent. It'd probably be offensive to even bring it up.
Still, he wouldn't mind making out or fooling around. But again... Addie didn't seem one of those people who'd be willing to do something like that so randomly. She obviously wasn't much of a party girl like some of the other students at Stewart had been. Cameron remembered how much fun he'd had with one girl back when he was attending the school. Sometimes they had sex, but they never officially dated. Actually, Cameron had thought she was sort of a bitch. But he was a boy, and if a girl offered him his body, what the hell was he supposed to do? Refuse?
Eugh, stop thinking about sex, he thought to himself, rolling his eyes and half-smiling at Addie. "So tell me more about your life," he said, twiddling the cigarette in between his fingers. "Anything exciting? Stressful? I'm a great listener. I think."

Cameron had a very good point. Nobody wanted to die a loser. She had thought about her death. She didn’t want it to be dramatic, and she didn’t want an obituary. To be honest, she didn’t even want to have a death notice in the paper. It couldn’t be made into such a big deal. She wanted her close friends and family there, also known as the people who truly cared. Addie didn’t think too many people would be showing up at this funeral, considering she didn’t have that many friends and her family didn’t seem to like her too much either. She would just go down in history as the girl that no one heard from after graduation. Addie didn’t like the thought of that, but then again, she didn’t want to be remembered as the girl that tried too hard to keep in touch.
“You’re right.” Addie began, looking over at him and taking in the breeze that hit her. She pulled her blue sweater closer to her, crossing one leg over the other. “I don’t want to die of old age either. I want to live to be 147 and live a fulfilling life.” She said with a soft laugh. “If I live a fulfilling life, I’m pretty sure I’ll die young. A lot of people find drugs, sex, alcohol and money fulfilling.” The girl shrugged, trying to figure out what her opinion of fulfilling was. She found eating a rice cake instead of pizza fulfilling, and dropping a pants size fulfilling, but did anybody else feel that way? She bit down on her lip, contemplating that.
Addie gave a fake pout when Cameron told her he wouldn’t fetch her shoe. She crossed her arms across her chest, watching her feet move back and forth. “It would be such a shame if someone was walking past down there and I just happened to kick my shoe off and onto that person’s head and the impact crushed him and gave him brain damage.” She recoiled at her morbid thought, but then chuckled. She felt terrible for thinking that, but it still made her laugh. Addie didn’t even know why she thought of that, or why she even said it out loud.
If Cameron decided to get up and dance, Addie would dance with him. She was feeling a lot better about herself tonight, mainly because she had made a friend that wasn’t a complete and total drag. Usually, she’d find someone who was even more innocent than she was and it would completely bore her. Addie didn’t like being bored. She hated it, in fact. It was a complete and total waste of life. If you’re going to live, at least have fun doing so.
She probably wouldn’t be too sure of what to do in a situation if he wanted to do any of the physical things. Addie had never even kissed a boy, let alone been with one in a physical way. She was sure she’d be open to it if it meant keeping a friend or taking it further, but she wouldn’t know how to do any of it. She would be a ‘virgin’ to all of it, and that would be pretty embarrassing. Addie looked over his way when he asked her about her life. She gave him a grin, trying to think of something interesting to tell him.
“Well, in the way of stressful I have my step-brother and step-mother living with me. My step-mother hates me?” She was not only answering Cameron, but questioning herself. She shook her head. “It’s alright, I hate that mother fuck too.” Addie’s eyes widened at her language, she laughed softly, then continued. “My step-brother is kind of depressed, I don’t know. There’s nothing else really stressful in my life.” Addie concluded, shaking her head. “What about your life? I haven’t heard much about you at all.” She teased.

He thought about the idea of her shoe falling that great height and bonking someone on the head down there. Was it even possible for someone to get hurt from that? He knew that people could be killed from falling pennies, so did that mean a flip-flop could do the same?
"I think that would be pretty tragic if that happened. And I betcha anything you'd be sued," he replied, shrugging a shoulder. "But no need to worry. It doesn't look like there's anyone around except for us." This was true. Stewart was eerily quiet and abandoned during the summertime. It almost gave Cameron the chills.
He was surprised to hear Addie curse when she mentioned her stepmother. Never had he expected a harsh word like that to come out of her mouth. Then again, he'd only known for a couple of hours now. He was sure there were a lot of things about Addie that he did not know yet.
"So you're kind of like Cinderella, minus the evil stepsisters. You just have the evil stepmother. She's gotta be a bitch if she hates you. You're too sweet to ever hate," he teased, giving her shoulder a gentle punch. He honestly did believe it, though. Addie appeared to be such a kind and gentle girl. Who the hell was her stepmother to go around hating her? Either that, or maybe Addie just assumed she hated her, and she really didn't. It was obvious Addie wasn't too confident about herself to begin with.
"How is your stepbrother depressed? Like, did something happen? Or is he just clinically depressed?" It occured to him a second later that these questions were perhaps a bit too intruding. People usually didn't enjoy discussing the mental conditions of their stepsiblings. Cameron cleared his throat and looked away, embarrassed that he'd gotten so nosy.
The fact was, he had trouble even discussing his own life. There was not much about it that he could say. Right now, he spent the majority of his time working, and whenever he wasn't working, he was sitting around doing nothing. And it wasn't like he could talk about his family. He himself hadn't even contacted his parents in ages, and it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. His father was a dickhead, and his mother let him be a dickhead.
"There's nothing to know about me," Cameron finally spoke, although it was essentially a lie. "I'm just a bored guy with nothing interesting going on. I really have to work on that, I guess." He sighed and took a long drag of his cigarette.
"So how about boys, Addie? Do you have yourself a boyfriend?" Cameron snickered, deciding to put the subject back on her. "Unless you're a lesbian, or bisexual or something. I'm bisexual myself." He blinked after he said it. Cameron had never realized it, but he hadn't spoken his sexuality aloud before. It wasn't because he was ashamed or anything; it was just that no one had ever brought it up with him before.

Addie hadn’t thought about how she could get sued. It’s not like she had any money. She could see it on the six o’clock news, ‘Young Girl’s Flip Flop Causes Brain Damage’. She scoffed at the idea of it. That was when she realized that she should probably just take her flip flops off. She lifted her foot up, sliding one of them off, and then lifted her other foot to take the other one off. She made sure that they were close by her so that the wind couldn’t blow them off the roof or anything. “Now we don’t have to worry about any of it.” She teased, laughing softly. Addie pulled her sweater closer to her again, trying to save all the heat she could inside of that little sweater.
“No,” Addie quickly cut him off when he said something about her being Cinderella. She chuckled, shaking her head. “I’m nothing like Cinderella.” She bit down on her bottom lip. “At least Cinderella had the looks. That way she could find a prince and get away from her evil family.” She laughed again when he said she was too sweet to hate. Addie shrugged. “Thanks, try telling her that.” Addie didn’t really understand Jennifer’s hate for her, or if it was even hate. She seemed to pretend to like her when there were people around. “She just doesn’t think I’m good enough, since Skyler’s a good football player, my dad’s a lawyer, and she stays at home and socializes with the neighbors, and I don’t do any of that stuff.” She shrugged again, trying to making it a little bit less complicated.
Before she knew it, they were onto talking about Skyler. She bit down on her bottom lip, gathering her thoughts before she spoke. “Were you at Stewart when that girl named Taylor killed herself or whatever?” Addie questioned, turning her entire body to the side to face Cameron. “That was his girlfriend. They had been dating for a year or so, and he hasn’t gotten over it.” She looked down for a moment, and then glanced back up at Cameron. “It’s been almost a year, so it’s kind of hard to understand why he hasn’t progressed even a little bit.” Addie knew it took awhile for her to get over the fact that her mother has passed away, but after she did she found it easier to go on in life.
She nodded in response to him telling her he was boring. “I don’t think you’re the slightest bit boring.” Addie said with a sheepish grin. “In fact I find you rather spontaneous.” It was true. Not only did she find him spontaneous, but Cameron truly intrigued Addie. It had been awhile since she had been able to sit down and talk to somebody without worrying about what they were going to say. She wanted to get to know him more and more with every word that come out of his mouth. He didn’t seem concerned with the big things in life, or at least that’s how Addie could see it, and that was something she liked about him.
As the boyfriend topic came up, Addie sighed, looking down at the long drop from the roof. She didn’t want to say she’d never been with a boy, but she figured it was the only way to say it. “Nope, no boyfriend,” Addie stated, chuckling softly. “I’ve never really had a boyfriend. I guess I’m just afraid of that too.” She shook her head. Tonight was making her realize how much of a baby she truly was. “Actually, I think it’s just the fact that a boy has never liked me like that.” Addie nodded. “No surprise,” She mumbled, barely audible. When he mentioned being bisexual, she nodded. “Nah, I’m as straight as a board.” She declared. “But what about you, any boys or girls that I should know about?” Addie inquired with a nervous laugh.

Cameron finished off the cigarette rather quickly, and he tapped it out using the palm of his hand. The sting hurt only momentarily. He then threw the stub over the ledge and watched as it fell from the great height and finally hit the ground down below. It was a rather high drop, and for a second Cameron felt insecure sitting at the very edge of the roof.
He noticed Addie shivering in her little sweater, and he immediately felt bad. Normally he'd offer up his jacket, but since they were at such a great altitude, even he himself felt a bit too chilly. He scooted a little closer to Addie so that their sides were touching. The body warmth would hopefully help, and if it didn't, he'd just wrap his arms around her. It'd be easy enough, seeing as she was so tiny.
"Oh god, Addie." Cameron spit out into the air when she made the comment about Cinderella having the looks. It wasn't that he was annoyed - Addie really didn't seem like one of those girls who just said she was unattractive even though she knew she was gorgeous. Addie seemed to genuinely believe she was ugly, which led Cameron to wonder what she thought of his looks. Did she think he was hideous? Or was she just being self-conscious? He decided to choose the latter, if only to make himself feel better. "You have the looks, too. In fact, I think you look better than Cinderella. I always liked brunettes better." He smirked and lifted his hand to run his fingers through Addie's hair. Cameron didn't realize that this could easily be considered an invasion of space; he was too fixated on the fact that her hair was so soft.
His hand stiffened at the mention of the girl at Stewart who had committed suicide. It happened just a bit before he had decided to drop out. Cameron remembered how the entire school had been cursed with a big wave of depression and emptiness. It was a terrible time for everyone, even people who didn't really know the girl. However, for some twisted reason, that had been when Cameron liked Stewart the best. People were no longer acting fake and chipper and the hallways like they usually did; the focus was no longer on petty stuff, like clothes and partying. It was the time when everyone was real, when everyone allowed themselves to show how upset they were. Students' true colors shined through during that dark period of the year, even if it had only lasted a little while.
"That must have been pure hell for your stepbrother," Cameron mumbled, his hand still lightly resting on top of Addie's head. "People who didn't even know the girl were hurt by it. And to have been her boyfriend..." He trailed off and felt goosebumps running up and down his arms. The conversation needed to end there.
Slowly, he went back to moving his hand throughout her hair, feeling the gentle texture of it against his rough skin. "I'm sure a boy has liked you like that before. He was probably just too shy to tell you. Us guys get pretty intimidated by attractive people sometimes." Cameron smiled a little to himself. "As for me, no one at the moment. I guess I just don't socialize as much as I used to."

Addie’s eyes followed the end of the cigarette until it was no longer in sight. The drop wasn’t so much a fear for Addie. She thought it would be exhilarating. It was the sudden stop at the bottom that she thought would bring her back to reality. She could be soaring and letting the effect of falling take over her, but when her face hit the pavement, she was pretty sure she would be one of two things. The first, she would most likely be dead. The second, she would be so out of it when she woke up from being unconscious, she wouldn’t have remembered flying to begin with. That was the part that bothered her. Addie would want to remember such a great experience.
“What?” She asked rather quickly, turning to face Cameron. Addie had hoped she hadn’t pissed him off or hurt his feelings with something she said. Addie didn’t think Cameron was hideous at all. In fact, she found him pretty cute. It wasn’t often that Addie would find a cute boy with a heart. She wanted to keep this boy as a friend this time. He seemed genuinely interested in what she had to say; something she didn’t get at home or with other people too often. To other people, she often found herself wondering if they even saw her. She felt like Mia in the Princess Diaries whenever people wouldn’t even notice her in the crowded bleachers. Instead, they would just sit on her. Quite frankly, Addie was tired of being sat on.
When they touched, Addie kept herself calm. It was odd to feel physical contact from someone other than family for once. Not only was it odd, but it was rather comforting. She couldn’t help but beam whenever he said he thought that she was prettier than Cinderella. No one had ever said anything that kind to her. She was the one who heard people complimenting Skyler on how much he had benched or how nice his muscles looked. Addie let a grin creep onto her face and she shook her head, letting it all sink in. “Don’t you know how cute you are?” The girl emphasized, chuckling softly. Addie hadn’t been that blunt in a long while, and it felt good. Cameron was bringing out a side of her that she hadn’t seen before, and she really liked this side. It was a lot more relaxed and laid back.
As he ran his hands through her hair, she gave him a small smile. The fact of the matter was that no matter what they were talking about the time, Addie was happy. Not because they were talking about Skyler and Taylor and all of the issues in that area, but because she was actually having a good conversation with somebody. It was pure hell for Skyler. Sometimes she wondered if it still as. “It was difficult. I was friends with her, but not that close. We knew each other and talked a lot since she was at our house to see Skyler an awful lot.”
She scooted a bit closer to him, and then cautiously rested her head on his shoulder, looking down at the ground again. “You should socialize. At least, you should keep socializing with me.” Addie said with a laugh. “I like having a friend.” Addie lifted her head, turning to face him again. “Look at me. I don’t look intimidating at all.” She chuckled, crossing her arms across her chest again. “I don’t even kill the spiders I find in the bathroom at Stewart.”

"Oh, I do know how cute I am. In fact, I would even go as far to consider myself a hunk." He had to chuckle at this. Honestly, he didn't find himself cute. Most of the time he just felt greasy and messy, but he figured a lot of people liked that style, because he had been called attractive quite a few times in his life. Of course, he definitely tried to make himself look good, but working in the heat and smoking cigarettes all day long didn't exactly make him the cleanest guy. Still, he was flattered by any compliment he received, and to be truthful, Cameron was surprised that Addie had gathered the confidence to say something so blatant. "Do girls still use that word? I mean, hunk?" he added as an afterthought and wrinkled his nose. "I suppose it's a dumb word. It always makes me think of a hunk of cheese or something."
It was when she rested her head on his shoulder that Cameron felt a pleasant surge of happiness go through him. He didn't particularly have a crush on Addie or anything - after all, he barely knew her. It was just nice to sit close to someone, and he hadn't done that in a long time. Her head felt light as a feather, and it occurred to Cameron that perhaps she was even more fragile than he thought.
He grinned and turned his head at the exact same time that she did, so that their noses brushed together. With their faces so close, how could he not have an urge to kiss her? Again, it wasn't that he had strong emotions for this girl. But the moment held a lot of attraction, and he enjoyed the fact that he could feel another living, breathing human so intimately close to him. Normally, he'd let himself get ahead of the game and start fooling around with Addie. But he still had that random feeling of protection for her hanging over him, and that included shielding her from himself. Besides, sex didn't really compare to running his fingers through her hair, and letting her rest her head on his shoulder. Sometimes, simple things like that were more satisfying than an orgasm could ever be.
"You smell rather good," he commented, after having stared straight in her face for a whole minute. Finally he averted his gaze and looked back out into the horizon. The city lights were glowing fantastically across the landscape, and it only made him feel giddier. Cautiously, Cameron shifted and wrapped his arms around Addie, pulling her close to his chest. He was aware that this was potentially awkward, and she might think he was trying to make a move on her. Perhaps he was, but of course, he had already told himself he wasn't going to bother having sex with her. He just longed to hold on to this amazing feeling of clinging to someone else. That person just happened to be Addie.

Addie grinned at Cameron’s explanation. “Good.” She said simply, nodding her head reassuringly. Addie was never one to be too terribly blunt, but she wasn’t going to lie and tell Cameron he wasn’t cute, because it was obvious that he was. Any female with a beating heart probably thought the same. He looked strikingly like that guy from High School Musical. She figured if she said that, that would make it sound like she thought he looked gay, which was clearly not the case. So she decided to just stick with the word good, because it sounded so much better than anything else she could have thought of.
She shrugged, looking towards Cameron. “I’ve never really said hunk. Though I suppose you’re right, it kind of does sound like hunk of cheese.” Addie mused, nodding. “My step mother says it, but she’s kind of old so I don’t think she counts.” Addie bit down on her bottom lip, hoping she hadn’t sent the wrong message, saying he was old or something. Again, that was clearly not the case. Addie hated how she thought about things after she said them. She wished she could do just the opposite. If she thought before she spoke, she would probably be a much more easy going kind of person.
As their noses brushed, she breathed a laugh. Her smile was from ear to ear, and she felt completely at ease. It was surprising to her, because with any other person she probably would have backed away. Since the feeling of attraction was mutual, she didn’t have much of a problem being so close to the boy. She froze where she was, just letting her eyes seer into his like a laser. She studied them, as if staring into his eyes would bring out some kind of secret, something to let her get to know the boy even more. It was then that she wondered if she was going to get kissed for the first time. When the moment passed, she felt relieved, yet at the same time reluctant.
Just as he complimented her, she grinned again. “Thanks, it’s good to know I don’t smell bad or anything.” Addie chuckled, shaking her hair out of her eyes. Just as she had thought the moment was over with, she felt his arm around her. When he pulled her close, she laid her head down on his chest, trying to see if she could hear his heartbeat. It was something she always wanted to do. She found it interesting to just sit there in the moment with Cameron, letting everything sink in. This was a boy. It wasn’t her father, it wasn’t someone who felt bad for her; it was an actual boy. “And you said you weren’t sweet…” Addie trailed off, giggling softly.

"Oh, jeez Addie. Are you saying I'm old because I used the word hunk? You should learn to respect your elders," said Cameron with another laugh. He winked again to let her in on the joke. Then he buried his face into her hair and took a deep sniff. He hadn't been lying - she definitely did smell good, whether it was her shampoo or perfume or whatever. She smelled like a mixture of marshmallows and vanilla ice cream, two of his favorite things to eat. He hadn't had marshmallows in a long time. Mostly because he couldn't afford to buy random sweets when he had to purchase real dinners for himself. And even then, he strictly ate microwave meals. So it was nice to smell Addie, because she reminded him of those sugary treats he used to snack on.
Cameron began to move his hand up and down her arm. If he gripped her too hard, he could probably crush her. Her frame was so small compared to his own, seeing as he was pure male muscle, and she was extremely frail. "I'm not sweet," he replied, wondering if she could feel the beating of his heart against his chest. "I mean, sure, I'm holding you and being all nice. But you should see me when I'm at work. I'm pretty nasty to the other guys. They're all big jerks and I like to piss them off for fun." He grinned, thinking about his job. A lot of the time he liked to tease the older guys for always trying to catch glances down their female customers' shirts. Most of his co-workers resented him, partially because he was annoying, and also because of the fact that he was so much younger than the rest of them. "I guess I'm pretty sour to them. That should be my name. Not Cameron Sweet, but Cameron Sour."
He began stroking Addie's hair again, this time holding on to a particular lock and twirling it around his finger. He supposed it wasn't really nice to hold her in such a flirtatious way when he had no idea if it was even going to go anywhere. In fact, it could have even been considered leading her on. But as explained, he was in the mood to just be connected to someone for a while. Addie was a cute girl, and he liked her company. Why should he not be allowed to get intimate with her?
Cameron sighed. "You said you've never had a boyfriend, right? Is it safe to say you've never been kissed either?" He lifted her body up a little and pulled her closer to his chest. Then he used one finger to gently turn her chin so that they were face-to-face. "I could teach you how to kiss. I mean, if you wanted to."

“No, I’m not saying that at all,” Addie laughed softly. “You’re not old. You’re only a year older than me.” She commented, nodding. Addie had always gotten along with people that were older than her. She was pretty sure that it was because they were able to hold a conversation better than people younger or her, or the same age as her. They were immature and didn’t understand the things that older people did. Addie was forced to grow up much quicker than most people her age. It was harder to talk about the situations going on in her life with people that were too immature to understand. Cameron, on the other hand, she found very easy to talk to. She was glad for that, because if he wouldn’t have been, it would have made the entire evening rather awkward.
He wasn’t sweet? Addie would beg to differ. He was one of the nicer people she had met her entire time in Pittsburgh. She couldn’t help but laugh at his explanation. “I’d imagine working with a bunch of mechanics would get on your nerves. I’ll come visit you some time.” She offered, continuing to listen to his heartbeat and steady breathing. She thought she was handling this situation a lot better than she would with any other person. Addie just seemed to go with the flow of things as they happened. It was very unlike her. In a way, it worried and scared her. In another, it made her glad she had broken out of her shell for the night.
Addie had the habit of twirling her hair. It was nice that somebody else was doing it for once instead of her letting her arm grow tired of twirling the same piece over and over again. She chewed on her bottom lip again, looking down at her dangling feet. Addie had to admit, once she was in Cameron’s arms, she felt much safer than she had before. She didn’t feel like she was going to fall to her death, because she was safe and warm. That was another thing. Addie was no longer freezing. There were perks to breaking out of your shell, like she had thought before.
Then he offered to teach her how to kiss. Addie was absolutely positively dumbstruck. Any other time, she’d turn it down and probably slap the kid and run away. Cameron had put it in such a nice way though. She shrugged, turning just enough so she could still be in his arms but she could still reach his lips. “That would be perfect.” She nodded, giving him a nervous grin. She was sure this was going to be awkward at first, but after awhile, she’d get into it and not be afraid anymore. After all, it was time for a change. She was pleased with the fact that she hadn’t freaked out at all the entire night. She’d have to go home and act legit so people couldn’t tell where she was. After all, she was sure her father wouldn’t approve.
